Starting after June 30, 2027, Arizona has a separate timeshare salesperson license for people who sell or exchange timeshares under a licensed real estate broker's supervision, with a timeshare-focused exam and an optional 30-day temporary certificate.
Official title: licensure; timeshare salespersons
- Effective from and after June 30, 2027
What changes
BeforeThe licensing law listed real estate, cemetery and membership camping brokers and salespersons, but no separate timeshare salesperson license.
NowA new timeshare salesperson license is created for a person who works under the supervision of a licensed real estate broker to sell or exchange timeshare properties for a timeshare plan developer or other person. It is unlawful to act as one without a license, and doing so is grounds for the commissioner to deny, suspend or revoke a license.
-
NowThe real estate commissioner must test timeshare salesperson applicants, in writing, electronically or by another method, on basic math, English reading, writing and spelling, timeshare laws and rules, timeshare ownership methods such as deeds, contracts, leases, liens and foreclosure, and business ethics for timeshare sales. The exam and any prep course must be limited to topics directly related to timeshare sales in Arizona.
-
NowThe commissioner may adopt rules setting requirements for exam preparation courses for timeshare salesperson applicants.
-
NowThe commissioner may issue a onetime 30-day certificate of convenience, without an exam, to a person who has applied and otherwise qualifies for a timeshare salesperson license. The designated broker of the employing timeshare plan developer must certify by affidavit that the applicant will be trained in timeshare and contract laws before taking part in any offer or sale.
BeforeLicensed real estate brokers and salespersons could do cemetery and membership camping sales without a separate license, and could have 1 employing broker in each of the cemetery, membership camping and real estate categories.
NowLicensed real estate brokers and salespersons may also do timeshare sales without a separate license, and timeshare is added as a 4th category in which a real estate licensee may have 1 employing broker. Timeshare salespersons renewing within 12 months after their license expires do not have to retake the exam if the license is not canceled, terminated or suspended.

What you need to do
People who want to work as timeshare salespersons will need a timeshare salesperson license or a real estate license. The text does not say when existing timeshare sellers must apply.

- The fees for a timeshare salesperson license or certificate of convenience
- Whether timeshare salespersons must complete continuing education to renew
- Whether people now selling timeshares without a license get a transition period
- How many hours any timeshare exam prep course must be
- Whether a timeshare salesperson may work for more than one broker or developer
