The law that sets when Arizona State Retirement System retirees get help paying health insurance premiums now spells out what an employer's "active employee group health and accident insurance program" means; the payment amounts and other rules stay the same.
Official title: ASRS; premium payment
- September 12, 2026
What changes
BeforeThe rule that blocks the premium payment for some retirees enrolled in an employer's active employee group health and accident insurance program used that phrase without defining it in this section.
NowThe phrase is defined as a group health and accident insurance program provided by the employer that the member is enrolled in as an employee of an employer or as the dependent of an employee of an employer.
Who it affects
- Retired members, contingent annuitants (people named to receive benefits after a retiree dies) and members with a disability of the Arizona State Retirement System who retired on or after August 2, 2012 and are enrolled in an employer's group health plan
- Arizona State Retirement System board
What you need to do
Nothing.
What the law doesn't answer
- Whether any retiree who was previously paid or denied the premium payment will be treated differently because of the new definition
- How many retirees are enrolled in an employer's active employee group plan
- Why the definition was added
This summary describes the law as enacted. Later laws, court rulings or referendum petitions can change the picture. Check the official text for the current wording.
